Do you want to share your experiences and memories, and write powerful stories that connect with others? Would you like to express yourself in a way that motivates readers to engage with the events, places and communities that mean something to you?
Designed to get life stories out of your head and onto the page, this five-week course will build your confidence as a memoir writer, whatever your starting point and level of experience. By the end you will have a complete story from scratch, plus the knowhow to structure and edit your writing.
As a bonus, forming a story about life experiences is associated with improved physical and mental health. Evidence points to the value of a coherent, organised format (writing) as a way to give meaning to an event and manage the emotions associated with it. Here’s some research that proves it.
Working in a small group of fellow writers with a friendly expert tutor in a safe space, we’ll look at the basic rules of storytelling and how to get a real-life experience onto the page so others will want to read on. You’ll find out how to bring scenes to life, and create vivid characters and memorable dialogue. We’ll also focus on editing and rewriting.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a real-life story you’re proud of and hopefully feel a glow of positivity as a result.
